Jeter's Production Could Affect Contract

Oct 16, 2014 6:31 AM

Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is currently headed for the worst offensive season of his career. He is hitting .276/.320/.716, career-lows since he tasted the major leagues in 1995. Jeter isn't having a terrible season and there is still time for him to boost those numbers, but Buster Olney of ESPN writes that his production could alter contract talks. He is currently in the final year of his contract. Olney writes that it's hard to see New York offering him a four or five-year deal at one of the game's highest salaries if his numbers remain where they are.
